The Iron chef was a Japanese television show produced from 1993-2002. The show had an eccentric flavor with a game show feeling where it's host Takeshi Kaga has preliminary contests between chefs and than a final battle to determine the winner. Their were guest commentators who served as judges. The show iron chef has grown very popular here is America as the food network had the show dubbed and it has found a new niche here in America. People love this kind of show for many reasons let's look over a few of these.
Japanese food is very popular here in America and the iron chef made alot of those dishes on the air. Humor is big in America too and having a cooking show centered around a funny host doesn't hurt either. The iron chef recipes were different and people love different in America. The iron chef continues to be popular even though it's been off the air in japan. Their are plenty of shows to watch and it's enjoying alot of success here in America.
What really made this popular is people would tune in to see how they would outdo each other. nothing is more exciting than having people try to do better than the next person. It makes for great television. The head cook of Iron chef is what really made the show though. he was an engaging person who made the show lively and people would tune in to see what he would do next. Not alot of hosts do that and people can relate to that. This is probably why the show lasted so long and why it has become popular in America. Another big reason is besides Americans love cooking shows we also like foreign shows for some unknown reason.
I look for more show like the iron chef to hit America as the popularity of cooking keeps getting better. Many foreign countries stable is the cooking show and that won't change anytime soon. Food and cooking is alot bigger in other countries than it is here and that is probably why so many cooking shows exist in foreign countries. So, I would say if you love cooking shows like the iron chef look for more of than in the future on the food channels and other food networks. They are cheap to use and people watch them.
